Dimitris Sokratous holds a degree in Physiotherapy with scholarship from the Charles University of Prague and a Master’s degree in “Brain and Cognitive Sciences” from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). His postgraduate thesis was on the use of “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in patients with chronic stroke”. He is also a PhD candidate in the field of NeuroRehabilitation, at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of CUT, with a scholarship from the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation. In addition, he holds a degree in Physical Education and Sports from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He works as head of the physiotherapy unit of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (INGC). As the head of the physiotherapy unit of INGK, he has the overall coordination of evaluations and rehabilitation programs for inpatients and outpatients with chronic neurodegenerative diseases, as well as being actively involved in many research projects of INGK. He is also a member of the Special Faculty of Frederick University where he teaches the course of Sports Physiotherapy in the undergraduate Physical Education and Sport Science programme, as well as the University of Nicosia where he teaches the course of Neurological Physiotherapy in the undergraduate Physiotherapy programme.

From 2012 to 2019 he worked as a professional physiotherapist and head of the hydrotherapy department at the rehabilitation centre “Melathron Fighters of EOKA”. During his employment at the rehabilitation department of the EOKA Fighters’ Memorial, he worked systematically with internal and external patients of the centre in terms of clinical evaluation and intervention in adults with acquired neuropathologies, musculoskeletal and sports injuries.

Dimitris Sokratous is a certified aquatic therapist by the International Aquatic Therapy Faculty (IATF), holds the title of Special Scientist at the Microsoft Computer Games and Emerging Technologies Research Lab (GET Lab) of CUTC, with research activity in virtual and augmented reality in the combination of neuroscience and cognitive psychology for the purpose of education and rehabilitation. In recent years, he has participated in various research projects and conferences as a lecturer in the field of neuro-rehabilitation.

He is a registered member of the Pancyprian Association of Physiotherapists and a member of the Pancyprian Association of Physical Education and Sports Graduates. He is also a member of the advisory scientific committee of the Health Insurance Agency regarding physiotherapy for adults with neurological disorders, as well as a member of the advisory scientific committee of the Department of Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities regarding the evaluation of wheelchairs and technical devices. From 2019 to 2021 he was a member of the Society for Neurosports and from 2022 he is a member of the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation. He was a water polo athlete of the Famagusta and Mesa Gitonia Nautical Clubs (1997-2013) with many distinctions and also from 2012 to 2019 he distinguished himself as water polo coach in the developmental ages of the Mesa Gitonia Nautical Club.
